Jack Prince was born on January 19, 1920, in Shreveport, Louisiana, as John Trevathian Upchurch Jr. He incorporated his mother’s maiden name into his professional name of Prince. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and formed a band called “The Chowhounds” in France.
After leaving the military service, Prince became a vocalist for the Shep Fields band. He then sang in nightclubs across the country, earning rave reviews for his style and voice. He also appeared in several Broadway musicals, such as Guys and Dolls, Li’l Abner, and Destry Rides Again. Prince played Hollister in three episodes: Sheriff Barney, The County Nurse, and Rafe Hollister Sings.
