Dr Mireille Michel Simon, a prominent Haitian-American physician and community leader, passed away on January 28, 2023, at the age of 61. She died of complications from COVID-19 at Jackson Health Systems in Miami, Florida, according to her obituary. Her death has left a void in the hearts of many who knew and loved her.

A Life of Service and Compassion

Dr Simon was born on July 1, 1961, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She immigrated to the United States in 1980 and pursued her medical education at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She graduated with honors in 1986 and completed her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

She was board certified in internal medicine and practiced for over 30 years in North Miami Beach, Florida. She was affiliated with several hospitals, including Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, North Shore Medical Center, and Jackson North Medical Center. She was also a member of the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, and the Haitian American Medical Association.

Dr Simon was known for her dedication and compassion to her patients, especially the Haitian community. She was fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Creole, and provided culturally sensitive care to her diverse clientele. She was also involved in various humanitarian and charitable causes, such as providing medical assistance to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

A Loving Family and a Devout Christian

Dr Simon was married to Dr Jean Simon, a cardiologist, for 35 years. They had three children: Jonathan, Jennifer, and Jessica. They also had two grandchildren: Jayden and Janelle. Dr Simon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Dr Simon was a faithful member of the House of the Living God Church in North Miami, Florida. She served as a deaconess and a choir director. She was passionate about sharing the gospel and ministering to others. She was also a member of the Words of Life Fellowship Church in North Miami Beach, Florida.

A Celebration of Her Life and Legacy

Dr Simon’s funeral service was held on February 18, 2023, at the Words of Life Fellowship Church. She was buried at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Cemetery in Miami, Florida. Her family requested that donations be made to the House of the Living God Church or the Haitian American Medical Association in lieu of flowers.

Dr Simon’s obituary described her as “a woman of grace, elegance, wisdom, and excellence” who “touched many lives with her kindness, generosity, and love”. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her remarkable contributions to the medical profession and the Haitian community.
