A Passionate and Joyful Educator
Sinders had been the principal of Lufkin Road Middle School since 2015, according to the school’s website. She earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing education from N.C. State University and a master’s degree from Indiana University in educational leadership. Her biography also included a quote from Mother Teresa: “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.”
Sinders was known for her passion and joy for her work, as well as her dedication to ensuring all students had the opportunity to thrive. She was also involved in the Apex Public School Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports public schools in Apex. Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert tweeted about Sinders’ death on Monday night, saying he was “deeply saddened by the loss of a joyful friend, colleague and community member.” He added: “Her smile was radiant and always announced her presence.”

Sinders was also a supportive and caring leader who made a difference in the lives of many students and staff members. She was praised for her efforts to create a positive and inclusive school culture, as well as her initiatives to promote academic excellence and innovation. She was also instrumental in implementing the school’s magnet program, which focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Many students and staff members expressed their grief and gratitude for Sinders on social media, sharing memories and photos of her. Some of them described her as a mentor, a role model, a friend and a second mother. They also thanked her for her kindness, guidance, encouragement and inspiration.

The water tower outside of the Apex Town Hall was lit red on Tuesday as a tribute to Sinders’ life.
