Kooper Manget Cause of Death: TikTok Star’s Tragic End at 19

Kooper Manget, a popular TikTok star and influencer, passed away on June 9, 2023, at the age of 19. His death shocked his fans and followers, who had witnessed his struggles with mental health and addiction. But what was the cause of his death? How did he die? Here are some facts and details about his life and death.

A Fear of Flying Led to Addiction

According to The Independent, Manget’s addiction to drugs started when he was only nine years old, after a doctor prescribed him Xanax to help him cope with his fear of flying. He had a traumatic experience while flying to Greece, where the plane skidded while landing. He said that he was taking Xanax two to four times a month at nine, which “wired his brain so badly” that he started doing other drugs at 12, such as vaping and smoking weed.

He Overdosed Several Times

Manget had been open about his overdoses and suicide attempts on his social media platforms. He said that he had his first overdose when he was 14, after taking prescription drugs. He also revealed that he had a near-fatal overdose in October 2020, where Thomas Petrou, the founder of The Hype House, was able to resuscitate him. He shared that he was 90 days sober in January 2022, and wanted to use his influence to create a space for spreading awareness and normalizing talking about mental illness.

He Predicted His Death Hours Before It Happened

On the day of his death, Manget posted a video on his TikTok account that showed him lying in bed with a text overlay reading: “who else b thinking they gon die young af.” He also posted a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption: “I love you all.” According to Heavy.com, he was found unconscious in a mall parking lot in Burbank, California, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

His Cause of Death Was a Drug Cocktail

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office released the official cause of death for Manget on December 19, 2022. It stated that his death was caused by the “combined effects of alprazolam, fentanyl and lorazepam”, and ruled it as an accident. It also found evidence of “recent clonazepam use.” Alprazolam, lorazepam and clonazepam are all benzodiazepines, which are sedatives that can treat anxiety and insomnia. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, and can cause respiratory depression and death.

His Family and Friends Mourned His Loss

Manget’s family and friends paid tribute to him on social media and expressed their grief and loss. His sister, Parker Manget, wrote on his Instagram: “On behalf of our family we want to thank you all for the kind words of our little coop. His passing is an absolute tragedy to our family and loved ones. We pray that we all as a community can continue on his legacy. He loved each and everyone [sic] of you.” His father, Harold Manget, added: “There are no words to express the grief and loss. It’s not supposed to be this way. Your child is not supposed to pass before his parents. Cooper has touched so many people. … My boy was a believer and I know he is in the presence of God. Thank you everyone. I love you all.” His close friend, Josh Richards, who co-hosts the “BFFs” podcast with Brianna LaPaglia, also spoke about his death and said that he was “heartbroken” and “devastated.”
