A Mysterious Disappearance
Jesse McFerran, a 38-year-old father of three and tattoo shop owner in northwest Oregon, went missing on October 23, 2021, under mysterious circumstances. He was last seen in the early morning hours in Tigard, Oregon, where he had spent the night with friends. According to Dateline NBC, he contacted another friend around 4:30 a.m. to get some of his belongings from their car, and then left on foot, telling the friend not to follow him. He sent a text message to the mother of his oldest son at 5:45 a.m., which was the last time he used his phone.
Jesse’s wife, Victoria Ward, who had been separated from him for a few weeks before his disappearance, told Dateline NBC that he was in a bad mental state and she was worried about what might have happened to him. She said he loved his children and his tattoo business, Fancy Rabbit Art Collective, in McMinnville, Oregon, and it was unlike him to vanish without a trace.
A Frantic Search
For more than two months, Jesse’s family, friends, and clients searched for him, hoping to find any clues or leads to his whereabouts. They created a Facebook group called “Finding Jesse McFerran”, where they shared stories, photos, and updates on the search efforts. They also distributed flyers, organized vigils, and contacted local media outlets to raise awareness about his case.
Jesse’s disappearance was investigated by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, which is the jurisdiction where he lived, and the Tigard Police Department, which is where he was last seen. However, both agencies reported having no evidence of foul play or criminal activity involved in his case. They also said they had no confirmed sightings of Jesse or his belongings since he went missing.
A Tragic Discovery
On January 8, 2022, Jesse’s body was found in Tigard, not far from where he was last seen, according to the Tigard Police Department. There were no signs of foul play, and the cause and manner of death were not immediately released. The police said they were waiting for the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
Jesse’s family and friends were devastated by the news, and expressed their grief and gratitude on social media. Victoria Ward posted on Facebook that she was heartbroken and sorry for Jesse, and that she and his other son’s mother would work together to honor his life and involve his community. She also thanked everyone who supported them during the difficult time, and asked for privacy and respect.
A Legacy of Art and Love
Jesse McFerran was remembered by his loved ones as a talented and passionate tattoo artist, a loving and devoted father, and a kind and generous friend. He had a distinctive style and a flair for creativity, and he made a lasting impression on his clients and colleagues. He also had a body full of tattoos, including a bird on his left cheek, which made him easily recognizable.
Jesse’s family and friends said they would cherish the memories they had with him, and the art he left behind. They also hoped that his story would raise awareness about mental health issues, and encourage people to seek help if they are struggling. They said Jesse was not alone, and neither are anyone else who is going through a hard time.
