After a short break, House of the Dragon is ready to fly. HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel about the Targaryen dynasty is currently in development, but work was recently suspended due to COVID-19 cases on the set.
House of the Dragon will be back on track for a release in 2022 once filming resumes.
House of the Dragon release date
In December 2020, HBO’s parent company, Warner Media, released a video that includes an update to the release dates of some of their most anticipated films. According to the trailer, House of the Dragon should appear in 2022. The only concern is when it will happen in 2022.
The first half of 2022 is still possible, but note that production on the series began in April 2021. Although a member of the team was diagnosed with COVID19 in July, filming it’s still going on in the summer of 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

What is the plot of the House of the Dragon series?
The show is based on the novel Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin, which chronicles the Targaryen Civil War. The events take place roughly 300 years before what we see on Game of Thrones.
HOTD will delve into the fiery past of the ancestors of the dragon mother Daenerys Targaryen and her brutal civil war for the Iron Throne. At the center of House of the Dragon is the brutal fight between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon hers, which ended with the extinction of virtually all dragons.
After the death of King Viserys Targaryen (no, Viserys does not wear the golden crown), the strong houses split into factions to determine who is the rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
