Meanwhile, Canute has become the king of Denmark after assassinating his father Sweyn. He plans to reform the country and end the cycle of violence and war. However, he faces opposition from his enemies and allies alike, who plot to overthrow him or manipulate him for their own interests. Canute also struggles with his own inner demons and doubts about his role as a ruler.
Thorfinn also encounters Arneis, Ketil’s daughter who has a crush on him. She tries to make him happy and free him from slavery. However, her actions cause trouble for Thorfinn and Einar, who are caught in a conflict between Ketil and his rival Halfdan.
Another threat comes from Snake, a mysterious assassin who is after Askeladd’s head.
