She made her film debut at the age of two in the classic Gone with the Wind (1939), in which she played Bonnie Blue Butler, the daughter of Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler, along with Cammie King.

She continued to act in films and television throughout her childhood and teenage years, often in uncredited roles. Some of her film credits include Raintree County (1957), The Joker Is Wild (1957), Girls Town (1959), and Atlantis, the Lost Continent (1961). She also appeared in several TV shows, such as Sally and Sam (1965) and Batman (1967).

Star Trek Appearances

Phyllis Douglas is best known to Star Trek fans for her guest roles in two episodes of the original series. She played Yeoman Mears in the first season episode “The Galileo Seven” (1967), in which she was part of a landing party stranded on a hostile planet with Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and three other crew members. She filmed her scenes for this episode between September 26 and September 30, 1966, at Desilu Stage 9 and Stage 10.

She returned to Star Trek in the third season episode “The Way to Eden” (1969), in which she played Mavig, one of the space hippies who followed Dr. Sevrin in his quest for the mythical planet Eden. She filmed her scenes for this episode between November 22 and November 29, 1968, also at Stage 9 and Stage 10. She also participated in a music recording session and a makeup and costume test for this episode.

Later Life and Death

After her Star Trek appearances, Phyllis Douglas retired from acting and sold real estate in Palm Springs, California. She married twice and had three children. Her second husband, Robert B. Boyce, survived her until his death in 2014. She also had two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
