Odele Cape Ventimiglia, the 25-year-old daughter of actor John Ventimiglia, best known for his role as Artie Bucco in the hit HBO series The Sopranos, passed away on January 12, 2023. The cause of death has not been revealed to the public, and the family has requested privacy and respect during this difficult time. Odele is survived by her 2-month-old daughter Shiloh, her mother Belinda Cape, her sister Lucinda Ventimiglia, and her father John.
A Heartbreaking Announcement
Odele’s mother Belinda Cape shared the news of her daughter’s death on Facebook on January 21, 2023. She posted a link to Odele’s obituary and wrote a touching tribute to her beloved daughter. “Heartbroken to have to post our darling Odele’s funeral notice,” Belinda wrote. “Her sister Lucinda and I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and love we have received, and your remembrances of how cherished Odele was to so many. Odele was greatly loved, and leaves a huge hole in our lives.” She also mentioned that Odele had a daughter named Shiloh, who was born in November 2022.
A Loving Sister
Odele’s sister Lucinda Ventimiglia also expressed her grief and love for her younger sibling on Instagram. She posted several photos of Odele throughout her life, from childhood to motherhood. “Words will never be enough to express the grief we are all feeling,” Lucinda wrote. “I loved my little sister a lot and I will spend the rest of my life searching for her in everything.” She also thanked everyone who had reached out to the family and offered their condolences and support. “My family and I are so grateful for all the care and support we have been receiving during this impossible time. It has never been more clear how much she meant to so many people. Sending love to everyone who is trying to cope with her loss – look after each other and keep Odele in your thoughts.”
A Fundraiser for Shiloh
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to a GoFundMe campaign that was set up for Odele’s daughter Shiloh’s future education costs. The campaign has raised more than $57,000 as of January 27, 2023, surpassing its initial goal of $50,000. The campaign description reads: “Odele Cape Ventimiglia was a beautiful soul who left us too soon. She leaves behind her precious baby girl Shiloh who is only two months old. We are raising funds for Shiloh’s future education costs as we know this is what Odele would have wanted for her daughter. Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.”
A Supportive Community
Many of John Ventimiglia’s friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry have shown their sympathy and solidarity with the grieving family. Among them were Steven Van Zandt and his wife Maureen, who played Silvio Dante and Gabriella Dante on The Sopranos. They commented on the GoFundMe page: “Deepest Love and Condolences, Maureen and Stevie Van Zandt.” They also donated $500 to the campaign.
Other celebrities who have expressed their condolences include Michael Imperioli, who played Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos; Vincent Pastore, who played Salvatore Bonpensiero on The Sopranos; Lorraine Bracco, who played Dr. Jennifer Melfi on The Sopranos; Bobby Cannavale, who starred in Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl with John Ventimiglia; and Aida Turturro, who played Janice Soprano on The Sopranos.
