Glenn Fullam, a young footballer and soldier who played for Crumlin United and the Irish Defence Forces, passed away on April 16, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. He was only 26 years old. A Passionate Footballer
Glenn Fullam was a passionate footballer who started his career at Stella Maris FC, a club based in Dublin. He was a talented midfielder who could change the game with his skills and energy. He later joined Crumlin United, one of the top teams in the Leinster Senior League. He helped them win the Senior Sunday title in 2022, scoring important goals and providing assists.
He also represented his country by playing for the official team of the Irish Defence Forces since 2018. He won numerous caps and played in a CISM European Championship. He was described by his teammates as “a comrade on and off the pitch” who always had a smile on his face.
A Dedicated Soldier
Glenn Fullam was not only a footballer, but also a soldier who served in the Irish Army. He was based at Cathal Brugha Barracks in Rathmines, Dublin. He was a member of the 7th Infantry Battalion and had completed overseas missions in Lebanon and Mali. He was respected and admired by his colleagues for his professionalism and bravery.
He received a full military funeral on April 20, 2023, at St Anne’s Church in Bohernabreena, Dublin. His coffin was draped with the Irish flag and carried by his fellow soldiers. A guard of honour was formed by members of the Defence Forces and Crumlin United. His family and friends paid their final respects to him in an emotional ceremony.
A Loving Son, Brother, Partner, and Father
Glenn Fullam was also a loving son, brother, partner, and father who left behind his parents John and Kirsty, his siblings Jason, Lee, Nicole, and Jamie, his partner Shauna, and his son Cian. His brother Jason posted a heartfelt tribute to him on social media, calling him “a true soldier” who he loved so much.
He also received many condolences from his former clubs Stella Maris FC and Croi Ro Naofa GAA Club, where he had played Gaelic football as well. They praised him for his character and personality, saying he was “hugely missed” by everyone who knew him.
