Found Unresponsive in His Dorm Room

According to 6abc Digital Staff, Ruehlicke was found unresponsive in his dorm room just after 10 a.m. on Saturday by his roommate. The York County Coroner’s Office certified his death at 10:47 a.m. at the scene, according to the coroner’s report. The Spring Garden Township Police and the York Campus Police responded to the incident and launched an investigation.

No Suspicious Circumstances or Threat to Campus Safety

The York County Coroner Pamela L. Gay said that her office completed an autopsy on Ruehlicke on Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, but the results are pending further testing. She also said that there is no indication of any suspicious circumstances or foul play involved in his death. The York College Dean of Student Development and Campus Life Dr. Richard Satterlee also assured the campus community that there is no threat to their health and safety because of this tragic event.

A Talented Athlete and Student

Ruehlicke was a junior sport management major and finance minor at York College. He was also a forward on the Spartan men’s soccer team. He played in 25 games for the team, including 11 this season. He scored two goals this season and amassed six points over his career. He drew his first collegiate start last Wednesday in the team’s 3-0 win against Albright. He also had a 4.0 GPA and was a four-time member of the York College Dean’s List.

A Beloved Son, Brother, and Friend

Ruehlicke was a graduate of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken, New Jersey, where he played soccer and lacrosse. He was also a sports referee for the Harrison Soccer Club in Mullica Hill from 2017 to 2019. He was described by his family as a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend who had a passion for sports and music. He is survived by his parents, Andrew and Lisa Ruehlicke, his sister, Lauren Ruehlicke, and many other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service and Fundraiser

A mass in Ruehlicke’s memory was held at Bishop Eustace Prep School on Sunday in St. Vincent Pallotti Chapel. The school also offered counseling services to any student who needed support. The men’s soccer game scheduled for Saturday against Mary Washington was postponed. A public service for Ruehlicke has not yet been announced.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Ruehlicke’s family to help with funeral expenses and to create a scholarship fund in his name. The page has raised over $50,000 as of Tuesday afternoon.
