According to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Edeburn failed to return home from work at the patrol station in Arden Hills on Sunday, July 31. Authorities began searching the area between the station and his home and found him dead inside his vehicle. He was off-duty at the time.
The sheriff’s office said there were no signs of injury or trauma on Edeburn’s body. An autopsy has been scheduled by the Hennepin County medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death. Officials said there was no indication of foul play or suicide in connection to Edeburn’s death.
A Remarkable Career
Edeburn started his career as a correctional officer in July 2015 before joining the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office in January 2017. He worked in various units, including courts, patrol, training, and the Violent Crime Enforcement Team. He was also a member of the SWAT team.
Edeburn received numerous accolades for his outstanding police work, heroic efforts during SWAT operations, and his compassion for people in need. One of his most notable achievements was rescuing a suicidal young woman who was going to jump from a freeway bridge.
A Near-Death Experience
In March 2021, Edeburn was seriously injured when his squad car was struck by a stolen vehicle that was fleeing from Mounds View police. His car rolled over and burst into flames. Another deputy pulled him out of the wrecked car before it was engulfed by fire.
Edeburn suffered two fractured ribs, a deep laceration to his right elbow, a dislocated toe, and a shattered right kneecap. He underwent several surgeries and physical therapy to recover from his injuries. He worked valiantly to return to full-duty status.
A Loving Family
Edeburn is survived by his wife Jes and his 5-month-old son Bennett. His wife described him as a loving husband and father who always put his family first. She said he had a big heart and a great sense of humor.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Edeburn’s family and has raised over $17,000 as of early Thursday. The sheriff’s office said it will provide support and assistance to Edeburn’s family during this difficult time.
A Tragic Loss
Sheriff Bob Fletcher expressed his condolences to Edeburn’s family and friends. He said Edeburn was “larger than life, both in his physical presence and his service to Ramsey County”. He praised Edeburn for his courage, dedication, and professionalism.
“His commitment to his family, his partners, and the citizens of Ramsey County will never be forgotten,” Fletcher said.
