Typical mistakes when looking for a job

Often, job seekers make typical mistakes when looking for a job. As a result, even an excellent professional can take a long time to find a good position.

You can look for a position for years, relying on other sources of income – renting out real estate, winnings at casino eldorado, interest from deposits, etc. Or study the list of common mistakes when looking for a job and do not make them.

TOP common mistakes when looking for a job

The following factors are the most common reasons for job search failure:

  • A poor quality cover letter, or lack thereof. Today everyone knows about the need to write a cover letter. However, job seekers must still send a resume with a single comment. Even more often – a specialist writes one cover letter and then changes the company’s name. It is a knowingly losing approach. Such a letter aims to show why the applicant is suitable for a particular position in a specific company. If this is visible, the specialist will retain his chance to stand out among competitors.
  • The job seeker needs to take the hr-manager seriously. Technical specialists are especially fond of this behaviour. Applicants with specific skills often believe their qualifications can only be assessed by their immediate superior – the same technician or IT. Therefore, during the interview with the hr-manager, the applicant demonstrates in every possible way that he is wasting his time. Companies are looking for a specialist and a person who will fit into the team. HR-manager evaluates the applicant’s behaviour, manner of communication, and soft skills. An applicant for a position emphasizing not striving for mutual understanding is a bad addition to the team. Such personalities do not get to the next stage of the interview, regardless of the uniqueness of their skills.
  • The job seeker does not remind you of yourself. Often, having sent a resume, the applicant needs a response. Considering that the employee has already been found, you can be satisfied with this. And you can remind yourself in a week, writing or calling the company. Often, it turns out that the consideration of applicants for the position has yet to begin. And the one who gets the attention of the hr-manager – has a better chance of being invited for an interview.
  • Comments in the direction of the previous employer at the interview. A frequent slip-up that emotional job seekers keep repeating. Employees who speak ill of their last place of work – immediately arouse suspicion. After all, no one wants to become the next place of work, complaints about which will be spread by a former employee.
  • The applicant is only interested in the salary size or does not ask additional questions about financial remuneration. Both extremes are considered harmful here. If a job seeker asks a million questions about the salary, but a minimum about the company’s development, he and during the work will only think about money. An employer is not an internet casino; he gives out money for work done. At the same time, if an employee is not interested in the prospects in the company, increased pay, bonuses, etc. – he is likely to be just as an initiative at the workplace.

Test with a cup of coffee

Recently, hr-managers of large companies have introduced a new test for job seekers at the interview.

The specialist is invited to the kitchen, offering to drink coffee. After which, they observe the actions. If the potential employee washes the cup and asks where to put it – such independence and care for the common cause from him can be expected. If the applicant leaves the cup on the nearest table – you can expect that the work tasks will also have to be completed for him.
