Introduction
The legendary movie Interstellar is considered one of the best sci-fi movies in the last ten years. The movie was directed by Christopher Nolan, the mastermind of science fiction. Now, it has been over 8 years since Interstellar was released and the fans are still expecting a second part of the movie. So, the question is, will Christopher Nolan make Interstellar 2? As we have seen all along that Christopher Nolan is not the kind of guy who makes sequels. The only exception is The Dark Knight Trilogy. In his whole career, Nolan has consistently made masterpieces without any sequel. Some of his famous works are the mystery movie Memento, the unique themed Inception, and Interstellar.
A Quick Recap
Before jumping into the discussion about Interstellar 2, let’s have a quick look at what happened at the end of Interstellar. As we have seen in the ending of Interstellar, Copper reunites with his daughter Murphy while she was on her deathbed. In the end, we saw that due to the relative timeframe of the different planets, Cooper is much, much younger than his daughter. Murphy requests Cooper to go back to Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway). At that time, Amelia was taking attempts to make colonies on Edmund’s planet. We saw in the last scene of the movie, Cooper steals a spaceship and takes his Robo-buddy (TARS) with him, and heads towards the wormhole once again, in order to find Amelia.
What Are The Chances That We Will Get To See Interstellar 2?
So, as we can see, there are plenty of scopes left for Interstellar 2. As Cooper sets off his journey to find out Amelia, the story can continue centering on his new adventure. The story can start from the point where we will see Amelia and Cooper reunites and starts to build colonies on Edmund’s planet. Interstellar can also focus on the romantic relationship between Cooper and Amelia that was already hinted at in the 1st movie. On the other hand, the movie sequel can introduce a spinoff storyline that focuses on the character development of Tom, Cooper’s other child.
What Does Christopher Nolan Say About Interstellar 2?
Regardless of what we fans say or speculate about the scopes of making Interstellar 2, things will not move forward unless the director says so. And as for now, director Christopher Nolan has not said a single word about the sequel. So, no… if we follow the director, he doesn’t have any plans for Interstellar 2. At least he has nothing to say in public. But as we have always seen, Nolan is incredibly tight-lipped about his plans. So, maybe, just maybe he has something in his mind about the sequel.
Considering all aspects, it is pretty much confirmed that Interstellar 2 will not happen in the foreseeable future and if it does, it will probably not have Christopher Nolan as its director. Maybe this is the best thing to happen; Interstellar is a unique individual sci-fi movie and the sequel which will be directed by some other director may not be able to match or elevate it in terms of quality.
