The Punisher Season 3 Latest Release Date Updates and Where to Watch

Based on The Punisher character from Marvel Comics, Marvel’s The Punisher is an American television series that Steve Lightfoot developed for the Netflix streaming platform. It acknowledges the continuity of the franchise’s movies and other television shows by taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). From the original Marvel Netflix series, Daredevil comes this spin-off (2015–2018). Marvel Television, ABC Studios, Bohemian Risk Productions, and Lightfoot collaborated to make The Punisher. Lightfoot served as the showrunner for the project. In this article, we shall discuss The Punisher Season 3.

The whole of the first season was made accessible on Netflix on November 17, 2017. The second season followed on January 18, 2019. Although they garnered various compliments, including a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award nomination, they were met with mixed reviews. Netflix canceled the Punisher on February 18, 2019. On March 1, 2022, all of the Marvel Netflix programs were taken down by Netflix when Disney reclaimed their rights. Disney+ started broadcasting them starting on March 16.

Why was the series canceled on Netflix?

To utilize the names and characters from the Marvel universe that they had the rights to, Netflix paid Disney a license fee. Focusing on its own programming made more financial sense for Netflix than continuing to pay the license.

Netflix and Marvel, which is controlled by Disney since 2009, reportedly had a five-year agreement to produce six seasons of shows like The Punisher and Daredevil. This partnership was abruptly canceled by Netflix, probably in an effort to save money. Rebooting the canceled Netflix episodes suggests that Disney may have also been aiming to increase its own income from the property in the increasingly cutthroat world of streaming.

The Punisher’s creator Steve Lightfoot officially informed the cancellation in 2019. (opens in new tab). He declared, “Netflix will not air The Punisher Season 3.” You know Marvel better than that, he said. “It’s possible that our Network partner has made the decision to stop telling stories about these amazing folks.” This claim also seems to suggest that the shows would somehow return.

The expected cast of Season 3

  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher
  • Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
  • Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix
  • Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont
  • Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle
  • Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani

The Punisher Season 3 Release Date

There were numerous rumors suggesting that Disney+ will reveal The Punisher Season 3 during the D23 expo in Anaheim, California. Back in February 2019, Netflix decided to terminate the live-action Marvel series. When the show was canceled, Disney addressed it in a formal statement to Deadline. You are more familiar with Marvel than that, despite our Network partner’s possible decision to stop sharing the stories of these outstanding characters. For their return, leave the door open. Since then, fans have been anticipating the characters from the Marvel Netflix universe. When Charlie Cox returned as Daredevil in Spider-Man No Way Home that year, they eventually got their desire in the latter half of 2021.

Around the same time, the Disney+ series Hawkeye featured Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his Kingpin character. Marvel’s announcement of the MCU Phases 5 and 6 at San Diego Comic-Con in July gave things a big boost. The 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again television series will debut, according to Marvel president Kevin Feige. It’s scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in the spring of 2024 and has already started filming.

Whether or if the rumors of a Punisher Season 3 are accurate are unknown at the time. Later this year, according to rumors, the project will start shooting. Daredevil: Born Again is generally safe to presume to debut first, assuming The Punisher Season 3 will be a part of the MCU and not its own reality. The Punisher Season 3 won’t likely debut before mid- to late 2024 at the earliest if that is the case.
