As production on Riverdale, a drama on The CW, starts for its seventh and final season, it’s the beginning of the end. The news was shared on Instagram by the show’s co-executive producer and writer Ted Sullivan. With the slate occupying the majority of the frame, the post highlights the first image of the year. Sullivan wrote in his post that viewers are about to get “such a terrific season.” Additionally, he expressed gratitude to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the show’s creator, for his assistance in bringing Riverdale to this stage. In this article, we shall discuss Riverdale Season 7.
A murder mystery that sets the community into shock is the focus of Riverdale’s first season, which had its premiere in 2017. They are all still in high school when the main cast is introduced, dealing with a majority of the issues that teenagers typically face. But the show never shied away from exploring the gloom of its material. As the series went on, it gained a reputation among viewers and non-viewers alike as a program with some truly bizarre plots, such as a D&D-style game that turned evil, an organ-harvesting cult, annual musical episodes, an alternate world called “Rivervale,” and much more. The show has persevered, however, and perhaps even in a small measure admirably, as it enters its last season after 114 episodes and counting.

Is Riverdale coming back?
It has, but the news is regrettably unsatisfying. Riverdale Season 7 was originally ordered in March 2022, however, it was later announced that this would be the final one.
The CW’s network president, Mark Pedowitz, stated when the show’s cancellation was announced: “I am a strong believer in trying to give programs that have had long runs a dignified sendoff”.
Roberto, who is overjoyed by this information and with whom we had a long talk yesterday, said that we should treat the show with the respect it merits. Making sure it goes out properly is important to us. They may have shared my opinion that seven years is the appropriate duration. I want to act in a way that is best for the show because I am a fan.
Because of this, it will still be emotional for fans even though they are probably thrilled to spend one more adventure with these characters.
Riverdale Season 7 Release Date
Although Riverdale Season 7 is scheduled to premiere on The CW in the US and on Netflix in the UK, we do not yet have a definitive release date for it. As soon as we learn more details or have a confirmed release date, we’ll update this page accordingly.
The anticipated plot of Season 7
We already know that we’ll be spending some time in 1955 as a result of Aguirre-Instagram Sacasa’s announcement and the season 6 finale, which, as you may recall, included Cheryl saving Riverdale from oblivion and everyone waking up the day after James Dean passed away. Jughead is the only one who is still familiar with the Riverdale of today while Archie, Betty, and the other characters are all teens once more, back in high school. It’s unknown how long the show will take place in the 1950s, but Aguirre-Sacasa reassured viewers that other season 6 plots will be resolved.
In a July 2022 interview with Decider, the showrunner stated, “It is not a hard, full rupture with what has come before. Jughead can recall each and every detail. Furthermore, whether they are aware of it or not, I believe that our characters retain an emotional recollection of what they have been through. The continuity has not changed.

The cast of the upcoming season
Though we don’t yet have a whole verified cast for Riverdale Season 7, we can anticipate that all of the major characters from season 6 will make a further appearance in season 7. Because of this, we anticipate seeing everyone return:
- Vanessa Morgan as Antoinette Topaz
- Drew Ray Tanner as Fangs Fogarty
- Madchen Amick as Alice Smith
- Erin Westbrook as Tabitha Tate
- Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge
- Cole Sprouse as Forsythe Pendleton Jones III
- Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom
- KJ Apa as Archibald Andrews
- Lili Reinhart as Elizabeth Cooper
- Casey Cott as Kevin Keller
- Charles Melton as Reginald Mantle
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka, who recently played the character again for a crossover, has also hinted that she would play a different guest role in Riverdale Season 7.
She said to Collider: “Yes, she needs to return. They’ll probably need her assistance once more. Lean into the craziness as much as possible for entertainment’s sake, work diligently, and have faith that everything will work out, but at the end of the day, really really probably call Sabrina again. To be completely honest, I believe they will require her.”
