According to a news from RajkotUpdates.News, The Ministry of Transport has announced that it will launch a new road safety navigation app that will provide drivers with real-time information about road conditions and hazards, and will also offer tips and advice on safe driving practices. The app is expected to be available for download by the end of this year.
The app, which is being developed in collaboration with IIT Madras and MapmyIndia, a digital tech firm, will use data from the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) model, which was created by researchers at IIT Madras with funding from the World Bank. The iRAD model collects and analyses data on road accidents from more than 32 states and Union Territories, and helps the government to identify and address the causes and factors of road accidents.
The app will also allow users to report and share any road or traffic issues they encounter on their route Ship Car, such as potholes, speed breakers, sharp curves, or accident-prone zones. The app will then alert other drivers about these issues and suggest alternative routes or precautions to take. The app will also send voice and visual alerts to drivers about upcoming accident hazards while on the road.
The Ministry of Transport hopes that the app will help to reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities in the country, which are among the highest in the world. According to the latest data from the ministry, more than 1.5 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents in 2019. The ministry has also set a target of reducing road fatalities by 50 per cent by 2030, as part of its commitment to the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.
The app is part of the ministry’s vision to make the roads safer and improve the travel experience for drivers and passengers. The ministry has also taken various measures to improve road infrastructure, enforce traffic rules, and promote awareness and education on road safety.
The app will be free to use for all citizens and will be compatible with both Android and iOS devices. The app will also support multiple languages and will have an offline mode for areas with low connectivity.
The ministry has invited feedback and suggestions from the public on the app’s features and design, which can be submitted through its website or social media platforms.
