Peggy Schuyler Cause of Death: A Tragic End to a Prominent Figure

 Introduction

Margarita Peggy Schuyler Van Rensselaer was the third daughter of Continental Army General Philip Schuyler. She was born on September 19, 1758, in Albany, New York. Peggy was married to Stephen Van Rensselaer III and had three children. She was also the sister of Angelica Schuyler Church, Philip Jeremiah Schuyler, and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, and sister-in-law of John Barker Church and Alexander Hamilton.

Peggy Schuyler was born into a wealthy family and had a comfortable childhood. She received a basic education from her mother and training in domestic skills including sewing. Like most Dutch families of the area, the Schuylers attended the Dutch Reformed Church in Albany.

In 1783, Peggy married Stephen Van Rensselaer III. They had three children together. Peggy was known for her intelligence and wit, and she was a prominent figure in Albany society.

 Cause of Death

Unfortunately, Peggy fell ill in 1799, and with the onset of winter in 1800, her condition deteriorated. She passed away on March 14, 1801, at age 42 at her husband’s mansion in Albany. Her cause of death is unknown.
