Noragami is a Japanese animated TV series that goes by the action, supernatural and urban fantasy genres. It is produced by Studio Bones. The director of Noragami is Kotaro Tamura and it is written by Deko Akao. In this article, we shall discuss Noragami Season 3

The anime has garnered a lot of fans worldwide and so the hype around the release date of season 3 is intense. The series has previously released two seasons and is currently awaits its third installment. The 1st season had 12 episodes, broadcasted from January 5, 2014, to March 23, 2014, along with 2 OVA ( original video animations) which were released on February 17, 204, and July 17, 2014, respectively. Its 2nd season had 13 episodes which first aired on October 2, 2015, while the final episode aired on December 25, 2015. This season too broadcasted 2 OVAs, each aired on November 17, 2015, and March 17, 2016. If we look at the duration between the two seasons, it was hardly a year and a half hence if Noragami Season 3 ever occurs, it will be after a hiatus of almost 6 years which raises more speculation about its release.

Will the fans ever get to watch Noragami Season 3?

First, let’s look out for the SOURCE MATERIAL INFORMATION. This series just like various others has its source in Manga. It has been reported that to date 23 volumes of the manga have been published. The most recent one has been released in Japan on 17th February 2021. Earlier for Season -1 volume1-3 has been adapted and for Season 2 volume 4-9. So needless to say the directors and makers have around 15 books with them to go for the adaptation.

Next is SALES AND PROFITS, the profitability quotient depends upon the sales of Blu-ray copies, and the number of viewers it grabbed on OTT platforms among others. All these factors are major contributors in influencing the makers to launch the next seasons.

If we take a look at the sales of Blu-ray copies, in its first season it sold around 5000 copies per volume whereas in season 2 it went down to 2000 copies per volume. The drop between these two seasons is around 60% which cannot be looked down upon. This is not something well received or successful when compared to Demon Slayer or Overlord which have made huge profits and sold much more copies than this.

The sales of its Manga pose yet another big factor in why there is no Noragami Season 3 yet. The graph of the sales has tremendously gone down. Volume 12 which was released on November 17, 2014, sold over 3,00,000 copies while Volume 21 sold around 120,000 copies, and the latest one Volume 22 sold around 48,000 in its first week. So it is clearly visible that sales and profits have not been able to stand up to the expectations and continuously went down.

Another significant factor is POPULARITY among the viewers. If we focus on this parameter the results are rather ambiguous. In Japan, Season 2 has failed to garner many audiences but all over the world, there are fans who have watched and have shown immense love to both seasons. They are in anticipation of Noragami Season 3 whose possibility is narrowing with time.

Possibility of the renewal of Season 3

The social media page of the series is still pretty active which is a reason for hope among fans. Apart from that much of the source is available which has plenty of content to adapt from. Season 2 has ended on a note which provides much space for the third season. The fans on the other hand have been patiently waiting for any official announcement for so long. The demand from its ardent fans has been high which could make the directors change their minds. Well, what could be merrier than this if it happens? On the other hand, if we look at the profits and sales, which have a huge role to play in the renewal of the third season, the chances become narrow. Therefore to say anything about the release of Narogami Season 3 would be uncertain.
