Why Is Laurence Fishburne Not Returning As Morpheus In Matrix 4?
The character of Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne in the prequel, will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Matrix 4. There are a lot of theories doing the rounds about why this is so. These theories include rumors of a rift, rumors that he refused to reprise his role, so on and so forth.
However, the real reason Laurence Fishburne will not be returning is that, as per his claims, he wasn’t approached by the filmmakers to reprise his role as Morpheus in Matrix 4 at all.
This could be because his character managed to survive until the end of the previous movie and the climactic battle of Zion as well, meaning that he is still alive in the real world and not this new version of the Matrix.
This brought up questions because the character of Morpheus is still going to be there, only played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The trailer gives us a hint that although he will be playing Morpheus, he will be playing a younger version of him and not his actual age.
This could be the reason, but we do not know the truth since Laurence Fishburne was also never told the reason for dropping him, apparently.
