Is Will Rogers III related to Will Rogers? The surprising truth

Who is Will Rogers III?

Will Rogers III is an American football quarterback for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He was born on August 19, 2001, to Will and Judy Rogers. Who is Will Rogers?

Will Rogers was an American actor, humorist, and social commentator who was born on November 4, 1879, and died in a plane crash on August 15, 1935. He was one of the most popular and influential celebrities of his time, known for his witty and satirical observations on politics, society, and human nature. He starred in several films, radio shows, and stage performances, and wrote numerous newspaper columns and books. He was also a skilled cowboy, roper, and aviator.

Are they related?

The answer is no. Will Rogers III and Will Rogers are not related by blood or by marriage. They just happen to share the same name and profession (entertainment). There is no evidence of any genealogical connection between the two families.

However, there is another Will Rogers who was a naval officer and who might be confused with the actor or the quarterback. His name was William C. Rogers III, and he was the captain of USS Vincennes, a Ticonderoga-class Aegis cruiser. While under his command, the ship shot down Iran Air Flight 655 in the Persian Gulf in 1988, killing 290 civilians and creating an international incident for the United States. He was born in December 1938 in Fort Worth, Texas, and retired from the Navy in 1991.

Will Rogers III and Will Rogers are two different people who have nothing in common except their name and their fame. They are not related in any way, shape, or form. The only other Will Rogers who might be mistaken for them is a former Navy captain who was involved in a controversial incident that cost many lives.
