If you are a fan of boxing or reality TV, you might have heard of Tyson Fury and Tommy Fury. The two men are both professional boxers who have made headlines for their achievements in the ring and their personal lives. But are they really related? And if so, how?
The Fury family tree
Yes, Tyson Fury and Tommy Fury are related. In fact, the two men are **half-brothers**. They share the same father, John Fury, who was also a boxer and a bare-knuckle fighter. However, they have different mothers. Tyson’s mother is Amber Fury, while Tommy’s mother is Chantal Fury.
The Fury family hails from Manchester, England, and has Irish Traveller heritage. Both Tyson and Tommy were born to John and Amber Fury, but John later separated from Amber and married Chantal, with whom he had three more children: Shane, Ramona, and John Jr.
Tyson is the eldest of the siblings, born on August 12, 1988. He is followed by Shane, born on January 10, 1991; Tommy, born on May 7, 1999; Ramona, born on June 6, 2001; and John Jr., born on June 18, 2003.
The boxing brothers
Both Tyson and Tommy followed their father’s footsteps and pursued careers in boxing. Tyson is the more accomplished of the two, having won multiple world titles in the heavyweight division. He is currently the WBC and Ring magazine champion, and is widely regarded as one of the best boxers of his generation. He has a record of 30 wins (21 by knockout), no losses, and one draw.
Tommy is a rising star in the light heavyweight division. He turned professional in 2018 and has won all six of his fights so far (four by knockout). He is also known for his appearance on the British reality show Love Island in 2019, where he finished as the runner-up with his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.
The brothers are very close and supportive of each other. They often train together and attend each other’s fights. They also share a common trainer, SugarHill Steward, who is the nephew of the legendary boxing coach Emanuel Steward.
The future of the Fury brothers
Tyson and Tommy have both expressed their ambitions to achieve greatness in boxing. Tyson is set to face his rival Deontay Wilder for the third time on July 24, 2021, in Las Vegas. He hopes to defend his WBC title and set up a unification bout with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua, who holds the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO belts.
Tommy is also looking to make a name for himself in the sport. He recently called out YouTube star Jake Paul, who has been making waves as a celebrity boxer. Tommy challenged Paul to a fight after his brother Tyson issued a video message to Paul on his behalf³. Paul has not yet responded to the offer.
