Cassidy Hutchinson is a former White House aide who testified before the House Jan. 6 select committee on June 28, 2022. She gave a detailed account of what former President Donald Trump and his senior staff were doing before, during and after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Her testimony was widely covered by the media and sparked a lot of reactions from both sides of the political spectrum.

Some people have wondered if Cassidy Hutchinson is related to Asa Hutchinson, the Republican governor of Arkansas who has been critical of Trump and his role in the Jan. 6 attack. The two share a common last name, but is there any blood tie between them?

The answer is no

According to multiple sources, Cassidy Hutchinson and Asa Hutchinson are not related. They just happen to have the same surname, which is fairly common in the United States. The governor’s office confirmed that he is not related to the former White House aide.

She interned for Republican Senator Ted Cruz and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise before joining the White House Office of Legislative Affairs in 2019. She became an assistant to former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in March 2020 and worked closely with him until the end of Trump’s presidency.

He is currently serving his second term and is term-limited from running again in 2022.

The contrast between them

Cassidy Hutchinson and Asa Hutchinson have very different views on Trump and his actions on Jan. 6. Cassidy Hutchinson testified that Trump knew that the crowd at his rally was armed but still directed them to march to the Capitol. She also said that Trump lunged at the steering wheel of his presidential vehicle when he was told he could not go to the Capitol himself. She said she was appalled by Trump’s behavior and praised the courage of those who stood up to him.

Asa Hutchinson has also been vocal about his disapproval of Trump and his role in inciting the violence on Jan. 6. He has called for Trump to be held accountable for his actions and has supported the work of the Jan. 6 committee. He has also criticized Trump’s attempts to undermine the 2020 election results and his influence over the Republican Party. He has said that he will not support Trump if he runs for president again in 2024.

The conclusion

Cassidy Hutchinson and Asa Hutchinson are not related by blood or by politics. They are two individuals who share a common last name but have very different backgrounds, careers and opinions on one of the most divisive issues in American history.
