Apple Looking For An ‘Alternate Payments’ Manager, Does That Mean Apple Is Going To Accept Crypo Soon?

Apple is hiring a business development manager for “alternative payments,” implying that the company is interested in cryptocurrencies.

Candidates must have familiarity with alternative and emerging payment options, according to a job posting this week. Working in industries such as digital wallets, “buy now, pay later” services, and cryptocurrencies for more than five years is one of the most important qualifications.

New ideas at Apple have a tendency of turning into remarkable products, services, and customer experiences that people couldn’t have imagined before — and now can’t live without. If you put your heart and soul into your work, there’s no knowing what you can achieve.

The new manager, who will be stationed in Apple’s Cupertino, California headquarters, would be in charge of forging new commercial deals with “strategic alternative payment partners.”

The iPhone maker is eyeing a new recruit as it prepares to accept bitcoin payments through its Wallet app. According to the Financial Times, the Apple App Store listing for prominent crypto exchange Coinbase states that it accepts transactions conducted using the Apple Wallet, although there are no details on how this connection would operate.

“We do not yet support Apple Pay,” according to Coinbase’s help page, “but we want to deliver a faster, safer option to spend cryptocurrency to iOS customers shortly.”

Apple’s employment posting has sparked speculation that the company is considering adopting bitcoins as a means of payment. Tesla said in February that it will accept bitcoin payments, prompting the crypto currency’s price to rise by 16 percent. However, the electric vehicle manufacturer quickly reversed its decision, citing climate-related concerns.

Apple has made no public pronouncements regarding its cryptocurrency aspirations so far, and the company did not immediately answer Insider’s request for comment on the job listing.

Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay, told CNN in 2019 that the business believes cryptocurrency has “interesting long-term potential.”
